File naming convention

These are my notes on the file naming convetion I will use for my trading charts.

Use a fixed, logical order from broad to specific. Use hyphens for separators and underscores for sub-details. Keep consistent casing. Example format:

<symbol>-<startDate>-<endDate>-<chartType>-<timeRange>-<timeInterval>-<indicators>

Definitions

  • symbol: Stock or asset ticker (e.g., SPY, AAPL).
  • startDate / endDate: Use ISO format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • chartType: line, candle, bar, average.
  • timeRange: Overall chart coverage (e.g., 1Y, 6M, 5D).
  • timeInterval: Chart’s resolution (e.g., 1m, 5m, 1h, 1D).
  • indicators: List up to three, separated by _ (e.g., EMA50, VOL, PIV).
